Elementary

At Mount Vernon Academy, our elementary curriculum extends from Kindergarten to Fifth grade. Each child is viewed as a unique person with an individual pattern of timing and growth. The curriculum consistently challenges every student to learn, grow, and think for themselves. The social-emotional, cognitive, and physical needs of each child are nurtured.

Our language arts program instills a love of reading and writing and empowers students as communicators. They are given daily opportunities to discuss, analyze, perform, debate, and respond to great literature. They are also given a broad spectrum of opportunities to write. They develop a life-long passion for exploration and communication through the written and spoken word.

Our math programs are designed to actively engage students in reasoning and in solving complex problems. It is developmental in nature, moving from concrete, hands-on experiences to abstract work. Math concepts are continually reviewed in order to promote retention and understanding.

Art, music, science, social studies, technology, and physical education also play an equally important role. Field trips to museums, farms, parks, performances, and sights from local areas supplement the classroom experience.

As a whole, our curriculum gives children the tools and capabilities to become well-rounded individuals while achieving academic success.
